This rhyming children's tale, filled with whimsy and heart, invites readers to embrace their own courage in the face of challenges and discover the hero within. THE STORY BEHIND THE BOOK: Having epilepsy can be a frightening and isolating experience for children. "Theodore's Dragon: A Journey with Epilepsy" aims to diminish the stigma and fear associated with epilepsy by encouraging age-appropriate discussions about the condition. Inspired by my son's experiences with tonic-clonic and absence seizures, I set out to find a book that could explain to him and his peers what was happening. When I couldn't find anything suitable, I decided to write a story just for him. LIFE WITH EPILEPSY: Epilepsy is more than just seizures; it can permeate almost every aspect of an individual's life. Mental health issues are common in people with epilepsy, and the stigma associated with the condition can exacerbate this. For children with epilepsy, having their peers witness episodes can be very difficult. Without proper education, it can lead to other children being scared of the seizures or, indeed, the child with epilepsy. In addition to being a story about a little boy with epilepsy, the book provides important information for parents and caregivers at the back. This includes information to supplement discussions on epilepsy, what to do in the event of a seizure, and where to find more information.
