De Amersfoortse fotograaf Jeroen Hansen (44) combineert zijn passie fotografie met een baan als adviseur bij een grote verzekeraar. Maatschappelijke betrokkenheid staat in zijn leven centraal. Al twintig jaar kiest hij voor onderwerpen waarop een taboe rust of waarvan de meningen controversieel zijn. Signs of Life is zijn tweede fotoboek. A cross in a desolate landscape on the island of Lanzarote caught the eye of photographer Jeroen Hansen. His photograph of this cross commemorating the deceased was the first of what became a unique collection of images of roadside memorials. Signs of life is the visual result of his remarkable journey through Europe, including The Netherlands. Monuments for loved ones: their lives ended suddenly and without warning, deserving never to be forgotten. Sometimes the story behind the roadside memorial is known, sometimes it's not. The memorial evokes something different in everyone. Signs of life has been carefully compiled to honour the beauty of these personal memorials so that the viewer can quietly contemplate the fine line separating life and death.
